Unknown Tomorrow

Standard

How do you make merry
When your heart is dreary
And your ways seem weary
Like life’s light looking bleary

How do you spread a cheer
When all your heart always has is a tear
And your dear ones are never near
Or your health, illnesses visit’s do not fear

We have come to understand
That the absence of problems
Doth not make the heart glad
But maketh the mind firm

Still, I will continue
To strengthen the weak
Even as I am weak
I’ll comfort the sad and spread a cheer
For I know not what tomorrow will bring

Celebrating The Strong

Standard

The day you see is like a night to them
The smiles and gaiety you aware of is a façade
The friendliness and warmth they provide you
Is meant to blanket away their hurts and pains.

For every strong face
For every comforting mind
For all the warmth they spread
For the cheer you share
I celebrate them
The ones whose stories you might never know
But whose successes you always see and hear

I doff my hat for the strong
Who don’t wince at pain
But bear them gravely
To those who endure it all
And only break down at the tiniest moments
In the weirdest place
I celebrate you all

The World is Yet To Know

Standard

The world is yet to know
Of my tales yet to be told
Of tears shed, silent and deep
And pain borne, hurt and bleeding

I’ll be healed
Soon, I repeat soon, the world will know
of fears once harbored
And treasure troves that had lain for a number of years undiscovered

I’ll tell the world about it all
When the hurt is at its lowest
And the throes of joy I always have
I’ll lend my story as a pillar
Of strength and succour to many

The race of sorrow and hurts borne today
Are but tales of experiences had tomorrow
The light will shine again
Soon, it will dawn

The Long Wait

Standard

I
The evening comes stealthily
Like a stalker stalks its victims
The atmosphere hangs heavily
On a woolen thread of silence
The crickets chirp and the owls mourn
The night is heavy and moist
My eyes are weary from tears

For how long shall I be lonely
Missing your company and awaiting your return
The one that I know not
Is the one that my heart awaits

II
The suitors come with pots of palm wine
And tubers of yam all in a bid to win what’s yours
How long shall I endure the haggling
As though I were but a product to be priced
How many suitors do I have to turn down
In a bid to wait for you
They are not satisfactory, they think
I am not ready for them, I say
But we both know that I await one

One who stole my heart long ago
One who I am yet to meet
But every being in me loves him
As though he had always being a part of me
I wait for the right but not perfect
And wait shall I continue
As the farmer patiently waits for the rain.

If wishes were horses, Beggars would play Polo

Standard

If wishes were horses, beggars would play polo
They would play like harts and reindeers
In the fairest and tenderest parks

If wishes were horses, I would join the beggars to ride and sniff the wind as the gazelle stuffs itself on wind as tho it were food

If wishes were horses, I would love you as though you were me just as the kangaroo loves its young and pampers it all along. I would never stop imagining wonderful things for you

If wishes were horses that love or wealth could buy, then I’ll travel back in time and buy all the horses that were used in battles so that you can have as many wish as you want

Alas! Wishes aren’t horses
But would you take me as I am?
I really wish that wishes were horses
So that I can play polo with you on race courses.

Just Three Words

Standard

Just three words yet I am forbidden
To say, think or even meditate on it
Three words that tell the whole story
But I just can’t hear them too even if they are coming from you

Three words that soften the beasts
Three words that tame the hearts
Three words that build or destroy
Three words which alas I can’t employ

Three fleeting but mighty words
These words I so desire to be free to use
Three heavy words that hang as swords
Which everyday I tend to as I muse

Let the words be spoken
And let me be able to hear
I bid thee speak and I’ll listen
Let your mouth and heart not be afraid
For those words have more potency
Than even the world thinks them to be
